Background of the Study
Training and capacity-building programs are essential for ensuring that healthcare workers possess the skills and knowledge required to deliver quality care. In Plateau State, Nigeria, continuous professional development initiatives have been introduced to enhance the competency of healthcare personnel, including doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals (Oluwaseun, 2023). These programs cover a range of topics from clinical skills and patient management to the use of modern technology and health information systems. Improved capacity among healthcare workers directly translates into better service delivery, improved patient outcomes, and increased efficiency within the healthcare system. Recent studies have demonstrated that regular training and capacity building contribute significantly to reducing medical errors and improving patient satisfaction. However, challenges such as inadequate funding, limited access to training resources, and high staff turnover may hinder the effectiveness of these programs. Evaluating the current state of training initiatives in Plateau State is crucial for identifying strengths, gaps, and opportunities for enhancing healthcare delivery (Adebayo, 2024). This study aims to appraise the training and capacity-building programs for healthcare workers in Plateau State, assessing their impact on professional performance and overall healthcare quality (Ibrahim, 2025).
Statement of the Problem
Despite ongoing efforts to enhance healthcare worker capacity in Plateau State, gaps remain in the training and professional development of health personnel. Many healthcare workers face challenges such as outdated curricula, insufficient practical training, and limited opportunities for continuing education. These issues result in suboptimal service delivery and may compromise patient care. Furthermore, inadequate training can lead to lower job satisfaction and higher turnover rates, further straining the healthcare system. The lack of comprehensive evaluations of capacity-building programs makes it difficult for policymakers to identify and address the specific needs of healthcare workers. Without targeted interventions to improve training, the quality of healthcare services in Plateau State may continue to suffer, ultimately affecting overall health outcomes (Chukwuma, 2023).
